Alma Gustava Garlie Ackley was born near the turn of the 20th Century. She was born and lived in a small town, Spring Valley in rural western Wisconsin. She married Kent Lawrence Ackley and had two children, a daughter, Margery Ann, and a son, Edward "Kent". Shortly after her son was born, Alma's husband died in 1925, leaving her to raise two young children alone during the depression. She worked as an elementary school teacher, and had a life-long love of children and their antics.

In the midst of World War II, Alma moved to Pasadena, CA to be with her sister Tilla, and to eventually be closer to her children. Margery had been stationed as a Navy Nurse in Berkely, CA, and Kent was sent to the Pacific theater. They both joined her in Southern California after the war. Margery went on to be a nurse and then a wife and mother on a prosperous turkey ranch in Southern California, and Kent became a pediatrician and treated many famous children in his practice in the San Fernando Valley. Nambo was there as an intimate part of each of her children's lives until her passing at 103 in 1996.

Alma lived a long life and was loved by many.
