Mr. Acker was born September 8, 1929 in Sequoyah County, Ok., the son of Mr. Pervin Acker and Mrs. Myra (Dobbs) Acker. He was a 1948 graduate of Sallisaw High School and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and Korean war. Mr. Acker was married to Annabelle Toles on June 16, 1956 in Tryon, Ok. He was a former railroad employee, a self employed farmer and retired in 1981 from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after 30 years. Mr. Acker was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw, Ok., a longtime member and Board of Director of the Sequoyah County Farm Bureau, FSA Board Member, member of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company Pioneers and the American Legion Post #27. He passed this life on September 6, 2008 in Tulsa, Ok. after having attained the age of 78 years, 11 months and 28 days.

Survivors are:

Wife of 52 years: Annabelle of the home
2 daughters: Myra Acker Adams of Bedford, Texas
and Ruth Ann Acker Basler of Aledo, Texas
4 sons: Charles Acker of DeQueen, Ar., Frank Acker of Idabel, Ok.
Dale Acker of Tulsa, Ok. and Gary Acker of Sallisaw, Ok.
15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren
1 sister: Dorothy Acker Lowery of Stillwater, Ok.
1 brother: O.L. Acker of Jenks, Ok.
2 half-sisters: Zelma Glass of Muskogee, Ok.
and Velma Rider of Sallisaw, Ok.
several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Richard and Bob Acker.

Servies were held Sept. 10, at 10am @ Immanuel Baptist Church in Sallisaw, OK., With burial at Sallisaw City Cemetery. Rev. Kevin Peterson and Mr. David Boyer officiated.

Pallbearers were Wayne Land, Jerry Johnson,
Harrell Lee, Charles Sloan, Fred Beck and David Boyer.

Honorary Pallbearers were Dwight Walkingstick, Bernie Gipson, Jerry Trotter and Craig Hefflebower.
