Gueydan: A mass of Christian burial honoring the life of Della Mae Lavergne, 74, will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gueydan, La on Saturday, December 5, 2009 @ 2:00 PM with Father Jason Vidrine officiating. Mrs. Lavergne passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at the North East Medical Center in Texas. Visitation will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home beginning on Friday, December 4th from 4:00 PM until the time of her services on Saturday. A rosary will be recited Friday evening at 7:00 PM. Mrs. Lavergne will be laid to rest in Gueydan Cemetery.
Della Mae was born in Gueydan, La to the late Nezier & Olpheida Baudoin Abshire in the fall of 1935. She was a retired baker at New Caney Elementary School. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening. Della loved being with her grandchildren and watching them grow. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Leaving behind to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Sidney Lavergne of New Caney, TX; one son, Rommie Joseph Lavergne and his wife Ivy of Montgomery, TX; two daughters, Tammy Ann and her husband Garrey Wayne Lambert, and Gay Judith and her husband George Duane Rains all of New Caney, TX; two brothers, Donald Abshire of Lafayette and Leward Abshire of Gueydan; three sisters, Audrey Johnson of Gueydan, Lou Hernandez, & Sue Urigas of Lake Charles; and 11 beautiful grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
