Joseph Abraham, 68, 424 E. Long Ave., was pronounced dead on arrival at New Castle Hospital at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after he was found lying along Long Ave. Rushed to the hospital by ambulance, doctors said he apparently died of heart failure.
Born July 12, 1892 in Syria, he was a son of the late Philip and Mary Abraham. He came to the United States some fifty years ago and was a self employed, owner and operator of a confectionery store in Pittsburgh until three years ago when he retired and came to New Castle to make his home. The late Mr. Abraham was a member of the El-Fityet-Alaween Syrian Association.
He is survived by his former wife, Elizabeth Assad Abraham and children: Joseph James Abraham, New Castle; Richard Abraham, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Mrs. Joan Rider, Temple City, Calif.; and adopted son, Charles Miller, in Pittsburgh; two brothers, Assad and Rahal Abraham both in Mexico and two grandchildren.
The body has been removed from the DeCarbo Funeral Home, Cunningham Ave. at Lutton St., to the El-Fityet-Alaween Syrian Association Hall, 424 E. Long Ave., where friends may call anytime after 7 p.m. today. Harry Sleman will officiate at services on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the hall and burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery.
