CULLODEN - Alfred Abner Abercrombie, Sr. died Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 12 Noon, at Sharon Primitive Baptist Church, 5827 Highway 83 South, Culloden, Georgia, with services following at 1P.M. at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Elder William Bishop will officiate.

Alfred Abner Abercrombie, Sr. was born on February 10, 1920, in Culloden, GA to T. Z. Abercrombie, Sr., and Adell Pierson Abercrombie. He was a faithful member of Sharon Primitive Baptist Church in Culloden, GA, for many years where he served as a church deacon.

He was pre-deceased by his wife of 50 years, Alma Moon Abercrombie; two daughters, Elaine Abercrombie and Dell Darden; and two sisters and three brothers.

He is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Jarrell (Wayne) of Culloden, GA, and his son, Alfred Abercrombie, Jr. (Lakeeta) of Forsyth, GA; two sisters, Celia Sellers of Ellenwood, GA, and Dorothy Jackson of Russellville, AL; and one brother, T. Z. Abercrombie, Jr. of Macon, GA; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by his faithful Beagle, Scooter, who has been his constant companion for many years.

"Mr. Al" grew up playing baseball with his brothers and cousins and was well-known for his strong pitching arm. He always loved the sport and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and returned home to help farm the family land in Culloden, GA for many years before and after becoming employed by the Monroe County Road Department. He ended his working career at the Monroe County Recycling Center in Russellville, GA in his late 80's, where he was known for his helpfulness and friendliness.

He instilled in all his children his strong work ethics and his motto "to always be on time."
