Miss Frankie Jean Abercrombie, age 77, of Dahlonega, GA, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013. Frankie Jean Abercrombie, a native of Lumpkin County, was a retired Professor of English at Gainesville College, where she taught for 24 years. She was a member of Cane Creek Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School and played piano for 51+ years. She began attending services at Gold City Convalescent Center in 1974. There she played the piano and frequently read the Bible to the patients. She helped in the establishment of Gold City Chapel and was the Chaplain.
After retirement, she visited many places in the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains in search of native wildflowers and butterflies. She was also interested in wildlife and other insects and helped present programs to numerous classes in elementary schools in Lumpkin, Union, White, Hall, and Forsyth counties. Her favorite hobbies were photography, printing, and editing home videos. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Fannie Pearl Stephens Abercrombie; and was also preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Lou Fields and Marjorie Louise Abercrombie; brother, Lowell Abercrombie and nephew, Neal Anderson. Funeral services for Frankie are scheduled for 3:00 PM, Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega. Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. Interment will follow in the Wahoo Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County. The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Tuesday, March 12 from 3 PM until 9 PM, Wednesday, March 13, from 1:00 PM until time of service.
