Old Resident Passes Away
Asa Abbott, an old resident of Cold Spring, died at the home of his son, Warren Abbott, on the Abbott homestead last Thursday, February 24. He was born in Schoharie County, October 25, 1828. He moved, when a young man, with his parents to the town of Clay. He married Miss Christina Patrie in 1851, and, moved to the town of Lysander, where he lived since.

He has been a resident of Cold Spring for fifty-two years. In 1881, he was one of the farmers to organize the Farmers Insurance Co.. He held his position as director up until about ten years ago, when he resigned on account of his declining years. Now his son Elmer holds the position vacated, by his father. Twenty-three years ago his wife died and since then he has lived with his children. He is survived by three children, Elmer Abbott, and Warren Abbott, of Cold Spring, and Mrs. Lester Diefendorf, of Clay; six grandchildren, Stanley Abbott, Asa Abbott Jr., Lyman Abbott and Homer Abbott, of Cold Spring, Miss Olive Drefendorf of Clay, Mrs. Harold Crego, of the River Road, one great-grandchild, Thelma Marian Abbott, and one brother, Johnson Abbott; of Oswego.
The deceased was a member of the Cold Spring, Methodist Episcopal church for forty years. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Reverend Dewitt Myers officiating. Miss Lela Dowey sang "Saved by Grace." Burial was made in Riverview cemetery.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Elmer and Warren Abbott, of Cold Spring, and Mrs. Lester Diefendorf, of Clay; also by six grandchildren, Stanley Abbott, Asa. Abbott, Jr., Lyman Abbott and Homer Abbott of Cold Spring; Miss Olive Diefendorf of Clay, and, Mrs. Harold Crego of the, River Road; one great-grand child, Thelma Marion Abbott, and a brother, Johnson Abbott of Oswego. Funeral services were held at the Abbott homestead Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Reverend Dewitt Myers, pastor of the Cold Spring Methodist Episcopal church, officiating.

Burial was made in Riverview cemetery, Baldwinsville. Mr. Abbott was one of the oldest residents of Onondaga county and had a wide acquaintance, especially in the northern section of the county. His father, Henry Abbott, settled in the Cold Spring district at an early date, coming from Schoharie county.
