Clint Abbott, 89, longtime Goodwell resident and Oklahoma Panhandle State University professor, died Thursday evening Jan. 16 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.
The son of Beulah May (Clark) and William Wayne Abbot, Clint was born near Duncan, Stevens County, Indian Territory. He was reared near Checotah, OK in rural McIntosh County. He graduated from Victor High School. He later received a B. S. in Trade and Industrail Education from Southeastern State University, Durant and later earned an M. S. from OSU, Stillwater, OK.
He began his career in the rural McIntosh County Schools from 1929-1941. He left education for a few years and worked for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa during WW2. As a U. S. Navy Veteran, he served in the Phillipine Islands and worked for Standlin Oil & Gas Company in Tulsa for a few years after the war.
He married Maurice Imogene Taylor on April 8, 1948. She passed away in 1983. Clint taught at Woodward High School from 1951-1959. He began his career at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Goodwell, in 1956 and retired as Assistant Professor of Industrial Arts in 1972. He was named to the Oklahoma Council of Technology Teacher Education Hall of Fame.
He was an active member of Goodwell Baptist Church and was ordained a deacon in 1957. He was a member of the Goodwell Lodge #521, AF&AM, the Order of Eastern Star, and the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma, Guthrie Consistory. He received a 60 year pin in 1993. He was also active in the Oklahoma Education Association, the Oklahoma Industrial Arts Association, Texas-Cimarron Counties Retired Teachers Association and the Goodwell Lions Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Louise and her husband, Gary Wyrick of Kismet, Kansas and Leta Kay and her husband, Billy Garrison of Jay, Oklahoma; two sons, Wayne Abbott of Oklahoma City and Guy Abbott and wife, Diane of Sublette, Kansas; four brothers, Whitt K. of Muskogee, Clifton of Checotah, J. W. of Middletown, Kentucky, and Roy of Louisville, Kentucky; seven grandchlren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, Cecil and a sister Zelah Abbott O'Bar.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, Jan. 20 at 2 p.m at the First Baptist Church, Goodwell. Interment followed in Elmhurst [should be Goodwell) Cemetery under the direction of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.
