Merle N. Abbott, age 93, of Toledo, OH passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014, at Fairview Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on August 21, 1921, in Wren, Van Wert county, OH to Alva J. Abbott and Hattie Abbott-Brown.

He attended Toledo public schools. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946. Merle retired from Jeep in 1978, after 34 years. He was also a TV repairman. Merle served as a deacon and treasurer at both St. Paul Missionary Baptist and Church of the New Covenant. He had currently served as a deacon at Inspirational Missionary Baptist Church, until his passing. He was an avid bowler, carrying an average of 200+.

Merle married Hazel May January 18, 1946, and unto this union ten children were born.

He was preceded in death be both parents; brother, Charles Abbott and son, Alva J. Abbott. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Hazel; sons, Fred (Carol) Grand Rapids, MI, Charles (Lynne) Powell, OH, Herman, Larry, Dennis (Valerie) Detroit, MI; daughters, Brenda (McDavid) McCorvey, Beverly, Columbus, OH, Hazel Abbott-Ayodele, Columbus, OH, Rosemarie (Jerome) Bush; sister, Berene S. Miller; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, numerous other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to staff at Fairview Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. A special thanks to Maureen Tiaceti, Laura Walker, and Jackie and Peggy from activities.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 15, 12pm at the Inspirational Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Alvin Dawson, Officiate. Any donations may be made in Merle's name to St. Paul Senior Citizen Project, Inc., c/o G. Bobbitt, P.O. Box 7059, Toledo, OH 43607
