Lawrence LeRoy Abbott, Sr., age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 in Salt Lake City, UT. He resided at 636 North Oakley Street (1241 West) in the Rose Park neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah at the time of his death.

Lawrence was born November 21, 1917 in Salt Lake City, UT to Henry Louis and Mary Elizabeth Smith Abbott.

On March 18, 1939, he married Helen Emily Neilson in Salt Lake City, Utah. They later became eternal companions in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in March.

He was an active member of the L.D.S. Church, serving in many positions, including seven years in the Bishopric, Elders Quorum President, Stake Missionary, Seventies, Young Men's President, Temple Worker, and many more.

He was a hard worker all his life and owned a freight handling company. He hired many young men from the Twenty-Sixth Ward and grew to love each of them. The many people that he worked with loved him and gave him the nickname "Suzy-Q" after a dance.

Survivors include his loving wife, Helen Abbott; son, LeRoy (Jill) Abbott, daughter, Colleen (Charles) Wright; seven grandchildren, Kim Carter, Cory Abbott, Carin Walker, Michelle Jordan, Christopher Wright, Craig Wright and Cami Walker; and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Campbell. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Abbott; four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 19, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Twenty-Sixth Ward of the Pioneer Stake, 1145 West 500 South, with Bishop Talmadge Robinson conducting. Friends may call on Sunday evening, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, East Millcreek, UT, and at the Church on Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 North "N" Street.
