Born: 22 August 1919 - Fillmore, Montgomery County, Illinois: son of Morgan Evans, Sr and Lydia Louise 'Lulu' Understahl *Evans. Grandson of John Evans and Ellen Davis *Evans; and Franklin Herman Understahl and Sarah Anna Akins *Understahl McLogan.

Died: 07 December 1941 aboard the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, Honolulu County, Hawaii.

Buried: on the USS Arizona and remembered at Glendale Cemetery Fillmore, Montgomery Co, IL.

Suggested edit: Paul Anthony Evans was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Fillmore, Illinois. His mother, Lydia Understahl Evans, was a homemaker and his father, Morgan Evans Sr., was a house painter and later a farmer.

The son, one of eight children, graduated from the local high school in 1938 and then served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, a Depression-era federal jobs program.

He returned home, but with jobs still hard to find, Mr. Evans left Fillmore, population 458, to enlist in the Navy on Dec. 27, 1939.

He was a seaman first class on the U.S.S. Arizona when he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1941.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars organized a memorial service in his honor at the Fillmore Methodist church in late December.

At least three of his brothers served in World War II -- Morgan Jr. in the Navy, and Kenneth and Art in the Army Air Forces.

There is a cenotaph for Paul Evans at Glendale Cemetery in Fillmore.
