Funeral services for Martha Anderson, age 94, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the Hawkinsville First Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the Orange Hill Cemetery.
She passed away on December 15, 2016 in Canton, Ga. Martha Anderson was born November 5, 1922 in Pulaski County to Susie Bessie Sims Kilgore and Charlie Burton Kilgore. She was twice married; first to Roy Herbert Edwards, who passed away in 1977 and second to William Hayes Anderson who passed away in 1998. She was also preceded by brothers, James Burton Kilgore, Ernest Lee Kilgore, Charles Ellis Kilgore, William Robert Kilgore and sister Bessie Kilgore. Living in Hawkinsville and Pulaski County most of her life, she was a graduate of Hawkinsville High School. She has been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1947. Mrs. Anderson served as a nursery worker, WMU Director and leader, BYPU leader of youth, prepared and served Wednesday night meals for 40 years. She also served on the nominating committee, Pastor search committee, property and space committee, decorating committee, social hall building committee, chairman of the renovating committee of the sanctuary and basement. Mrs. Anderson was the first woman to be elected deacon at First Baptist Church. She was also a caregiver to many people. She loved her church and people, especially her church family.
She retired as food service manager of Hawkinsville High School after serving 16 ½ years. She loved to cook and she had a keen sense of humor and a competitive spirit. Not only will she be missed by her family, but her many friends who could always count on her to help them during a time of need.
She was a devoted and loving mother to her children, granny to her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening at Clark Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to the Hawkinsville First Baptist Church Renovating Fund.
