Lora Elizabeth Smith Akers, (Toots), 78, of Blacksburg, died Friday, June 16, 2000 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
She was born in Montgomery County on February 25, 1922. She was preceded in death by her father Ira Nelson Smith; and her husband, Frank William Akers.
She is survived by her mother, Oretha Alls Smith, Salem; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Ronnie Ratcliff, Christiansburg, Terri and Darrell McGuire, Elliston; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Debbie Akers, Salem, Todd and Donna Akers, Elliston; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Freda and Donald Spears, Salem, Betty Jo and Chapman Williams, Salem, Hallie and Merle Graham, Christiansburg, Earnestine Gillespie, Christiansburg, Janice and Radar Vaden, Blacksburg, Billie Sue and Eddie Thornton, Richmond; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Wilma Smith, Catawba, Nelson and Phyllis Smith, Bradshaw, T. H. Jack and Catherine Smith, Roanoke, Doug and Ginger Smith, Elliston.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 19, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Fain officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Jordan Fleishhacker for all the care he had given Mrs. Akers.
