BABY FATALLY INJURED IN TRAFFIC CRASH
Funeral services for little Richard Leslie (Rickie) Alexander, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Alexander (their only child) were held at the First Baptist Church here at 3 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. J.T. Spurlin conducting. The service made in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The baby, age two months and 13 days, was fatally injured at 6:20 p.m. Saturday in a traffic accident on Highway 84 about two and one-half miles east of Hayti. Death came a short time later from a fractured skull while the baby was being taken to the hospital
The baby, age two months and its mother and father enroute to Caruthersville when the car collided headon with another machine driven by A.B. Rhodes of Caruthersville, headed toward Hayti.
Mr. Alexander, a World War II Navy veteran, told State Trooper Herbert R. Wickham that the Rhodes car was passing another automobile and failed to pull out of his lane. Mr. Rhodes, according to Trooper Wickham, said there were several cars at the point and he did not see the Alexander machine. He was arrested, Trooper Wickham said on a charge of careless and reckless driving while drinking, and summoned to appear in magistrate's court of Caruthersville Thursday.
Mrs. Alexander received severe cuts and bruises on her face, her head having struck the windshield of their car. Mr. Rhodes received minor cuts and bruises, and Mr. Alexander was not injured.
The father of the baby is employed at the W.W Crysler Company, implement dealer, here.
