Mahomet Weyonomon was a chief of the Mohegan Tribe of Indians, who went to England to petition King George II about the lands of his tribe being encroached upon by settlers after orders from London forbid this.

Mahomet died of Smallpox before being able to see the King, however, he was given a very important burial - including a nighttime torchlit procession across London Bridge - something that would have been reserved only for those of high esteem (nighttime burials were expensive and very rare.)

Although Mahomet's exact gravestone is unmarked/unknown, a monument was raised for him in 2006 by members of the Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut, with audience by the Queen.
