Journalist. He began his career as a financial journalist for the weekly "L'Usine Nouvelle", until in 1981 he joined the editorial staff of the magazine "L'Expansion". Four years later, he participated in the creation of the economic newspaper "La Tribune", which years later became director. In 1986 he joined the economic information service "Le Monde", where was climbing up to the leadership positions in the economic area in 1989. He was appointed Editor in Chief of "Le Monde" in February 2011, after having held the same position at the financial daily newspapers "Les Echos" and "La Tribune", replacing Eric Fottorino, coinciding with the arrival of the new owners of the daily, Pierre Bergé, Xavier Niel and Matthieu Pigasse. He was author of several essays as: "Ce Monde qui nous attend" ("This world that awaits us") in 1997, "Le Capitalisme zinzin" ("Capitalism zinzin") in 1999, "Monsieur Ni-ni: l'économie selon Jospin" ("Mr. Ni-ni: the economy by Jospin") in 2002, "Quand la Chine change le Monde" ("When China changes the world") in 2005 and "L'Arrogance chinoise" ("The Chinese arrogance") in 2011. Cause of death: Heart attack while working on journal writing.  (bio by: Errete)
