US Congresswoman. Elected as a Republican to represent California in the United States House of Representatives, she served from 1925 to 1937. Born Florence Prag in Salt Lake City, Utah, she graduated from the University of California in 1887 as one of only seven women in a class of 40. In 1899 she married future US Congressman Julius Kahn, and the couple had two sons. Following the death of her husband in office during the 69th Congress in 1924, Kahn arrived at the US House via special election and went on to win reelection in her own right five times. She was the first Jewish woman to serve in the US Congress. (bio by: Donna)
