Professional Football Player. For five seasons (1962 to 1966), he played at the defensive-back position in the American Football League with the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. Born Raymond Lewis Abruzzese, Jr., he attended South Philadelphia High School and Hinds Community College (Mississippi), before transferring to the University of Alabama, where he played collegiate football. While with the Crimson Tide, he experienced a national championship in 1961 under coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. Selected by the Bills during the 23rd round of the 1962 AFL Draft, he appeared in 61 regular season games, compiling 10 interceptions for 75 yards. He was part of a Buffalo backfield which included Booker Edgerson, Butch Byrd, Eugene Sykes and George Saimes, who contributed to their AFL Championship Title in 1964. Following his playing career, he was involved with various business endeavors. (bio by: C.S.)
