Singer, Songwriter, Producer, Arranger. Born William Sanders. He was an original member of the vocal group the Satintones, members were Vernon Williams, Sonny Sanders, James Ellis, Sammy Mack and Robert Bateman. He was an in-demand musician and arranger in his native Detroit during the early 1960's, working on hits such as "The Very Best of Edwin Starr" (Motown). Hired by Chicago soul producer Carl Davis in 1965, one of his first arranging assignments in Chicago was for singer Mary Wells. In early 1966, her post-Motown hit "Dear Lover" hit number six Rhythm and Blues. He co-wrote "Me and My Baby" and "Fancy Free" with singer/songwriter Barrett Strong. In 1966, while working at Brunswick Records he arranged several hits for Jackie Wilson, hits included: "Whispers (Gettin' Louder)". Other Billboard-charting include: "I Don't Want to Lose You," "I've Lost You," "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher," "Since You Showed Me How to Be Happy," "I Get the Sweetest Feeling," and "(I Can Feel Those Vibrations) This Love Is Real." He also worked with fellow Detroiters the Funk Brothers, Motown's studio band. He recorded with almost every act signed to the Brunswick label, some of whom he had worked with previously: Gene Chandler, Tyrone Davis, the Chi-Lites, the Artistics, Walter Jackson, and others. He wrote songs for The Chi-Lites, Barbara Acklin, and The Impressions. He also co-wrote "If You Need Me," a churchy ballad written with Wilson Pickett and Robert Bateman (the Marvelettes' "Please Mr. Postman"). He arranged tracks by the Platters ("With This Ring") and ("Let the Woman Know"). In 1977, he produced the debut album of Indianapolis, Indiana soul/funk band Manchild, "Power and Love". One single from the LP, "Especially for You," peaked at number 70 on the Rhythm and Blues chart. In 1998, he co-arranged and co-produced Eugene Record's first gospel album, "Let Him In".
