Major League Baseball Player. The brother of baseball players Clete and Cloyd Boyer, he spent 15 years in the major leagues, 11 of those as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. Known for his outstanding defensive skills at third base and his clutch hitting, he was a five time Gold Glove winner and the National League Most Valuable Player in 1964. He led the Cardinals to the World Series Championship that year by hitting a grand slam in Game 4 of the World Series to defeat the New York Yankees 4-3 and then hit a home run in the seventh inning of Game 7 to seal a St. Louis 7-5 victory. His lifetime batting average was .287 and he hit 282 home runs with 1,141 runs batted in. He also managed the St. Louis Cardinals in 1978 and 1979 before being replaced by Whitey Herzog midway through the 1980 season. His number 14 was retired by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1984. (bio by: Decal)
