VERNON: Janice G. Barth, 63 years, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday April 16, 2013 with her husband at her side. Born in Trenton, Michigan she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Cecilia Puhl Gerring. Janice grew up in Wyandotte, Michigan and has been a resident of Vernon Twp. since 1977 and prior to that had resided in Long Island. NY.
Janice was an undergraduate of Central Michigan University and received her Master's degree in Education from Seton Hall University. She began her teaching career in Michigan and upon moving to New Jersey continued teaching at Rolling Hills School in Vernon, NJ, teaching second and fourth grades. She retired from teaching after 23 years at Rolling Hills. Throughout her lifetime, she received many awards and acknowledgements for her professional and civic involvement: Janice received the American Red Cross Mrs. Joseph P. Quinn, Sr. award in 1996 for a program she established at Rolling Hills School and continued until her retirement in 2010; she was nominated for the United Way Mary T. Stuart Community Service Award in 1996; she received the Governor's Teacher Recognition in 1998; she also received the Teacher Scholar in Residence Award in 1999. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the international education honor society. Janice was an active and involved member of Holy Counselor Lutheran Church in Vernon, where she sang in the choir and served on Church Council. After her retirement from teaching, she along with her husband volunteered at the Winslow Therapeutic Riding Stables and the Harvest House food pantry. She enjoyed kayaking, Zumba dancing, and traveling with her husband. Most of all she enjoyed the love of her family, and especially her grandson Jackson.
She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years Fred Barth of Vernon, her sons Brian Barth of Los angles, CA, Robert Barth and his wife Jennifer of Los Angles, CA, her grandson Jackson Barth, and brothers Norman Gerring of Lincoln Park, MI, Jacob Gerring of Beverly Hills, Fl, and Robert Gerring of Rivera Beach, Fl, along with several nieces and nephews.
Memorial interment of ashes in Glenwood Cemetery in Vernon.
