Carney Enterprise (Lincoln Co., OK), Friday, 8-20-1909:
Willis Baber Dead.
Willis Baber, an old resident of Lincoln county, and sixty-one years of age, died at his home in Union township, seven miles northwest of Chandler Wednesday morning, and the indications point to suicide. Mr. Baber has been in ill health for several years but it was not thought that he would carry out the threat.
He arose early on Wednesday morning, dressed and went out on the porch, but returned presently and laid down on a blanket in the room. In a few minutes his wife arose and going to where he was, smelled the odor of carbolic acid, and suspecting the truth she tried to arouse him, but he was beyond speaking, and died before a physician could be secured. A three ounce bottle half empty was found in the yard. An inquiry was held by the officer and the above facts ascertained.
Mr. Baber was an old and highly respected citizen and his death was a shock to his friends. He was buried yesterday.-- Tribune.
