Edwin James Adams was born March 1, 1881 in Paulding County, Ohio to Alton E. and Mary M. (Dunson) Adams.

The following is a biography written by his daughter Mable Marie (Adams) Johnson:

Edwin James (Ned) Adams and Mary Louise Marchand eloped at three O'clock in the afternoon, by way of freight train, on March 10, 1906. They went from Beloit, Kansas to Concordia, Kansas and were married by a judge and had two of the judge's daughters as witnesses at seven O'clock that evening. They stayed at a Hotel that night.

The next morning they went to the Livery Stable. They hired a Cutter Sleigh to take them to Jamestown, Kansas, to Aunt Kate's (Papa's sister) house. The next morning Papa and Uncle Harvey went back to Beloit. Papa had a 160 acres farm rented there to farm. The next day Mama got on the train and returned back to Beloit, where Papa met her.

They farmed in Beloit until March 1, 1909 then left for Oklahoma. There they bought 80 acres of land with no improvements from Grandad Adams for $1200 and gave Uncle Bart 2 span of mules for his equity in the 80 acres.

In March 1910 they left Oklahoma for Beloit, Kansas in a covered wagon. The trip took 10 days, they shipped their stove and 50lbs can of lard by train. They farmed in Kansas until 1913. Elmer was born on November 19, 1910 and Leo on February 10, 1913 in Beloit, KS.

In September 1913 the family moved back to Oklahoma by train. They rented a 160 acres farm east of Cestos, OK for $100 per year. Wilber Paul was born on this farm July 15, 1915. They bought and moved two little houses to the 80 acres they had bought. That fall the family moved to the 80 acre farm.

On December 26, 1917 Mable was born. In the spring of 1918 Papa got sick and they had to hire a hand to help do the work, his name was Ottis Dermett. Papa was in and out of the Woodward Hospital until he passed away on August 5, 1918. Mama had to hold a farm sale to settle his estate.

Uncle Joe Marchand (Mama's brother) came to live with us in the winter of 1918. The flu broke out and we all were ill. We lost our brother Leo on December 4, 1918.

Mama continued living there until she married Cash Heaivilin on September 16, 1920.
