Retired U.S. Navy Master Chief, Michael Daniel Albero Sr., 91, passed away July 23, 2005. Mr. Albero was born May 4, 1914, in Pelham, N.Y., to the late Carl and Anna Albero. He served 44 years in the U.S. Navy between active duty and in the Reserves. His service to his country included combat during World War II in which he was wounded at Guadalcanal by a Japanese Kamakazi. Upon his retirement from the U.S Navy, he became the chief engineer for Mutual of New York and also Canada Dry Corp. He was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church since 1978, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. Survivors include one daughter, RoseAnn Denton of Virginia Beach; four sons, Carl Albero and wife Carole Anne of Virginia Beach, Andrew Albero and wife Deborah of Virginia Beach, Michael Albero Jr. and wife Paula of Chicago, Ill., and Richard Albero of New Paltz, N.Y.; one sister, Lucy Telesco of New York; one brother, Peter Albero of Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A funeral Mass will be held in Star of the Sea Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow with full military honors at the Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children, 6171 Kempsville Circle, Norfolk, VA 23502.
