Oda Taylor Burgess was born in 1915 in Range, Texas County, Oklahoma to James Jonathan Burgess 1877-1918 and Caldonia Dryman Johnson 1877-1973.
He was raised in the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles and in May of 1941 enlisted in the US Army. After basic training he was sent to Wake Island, where he was killed by Japanese invaders.
He is among the hundreds of servicemen buried on Wake Island - and this Memorial does not mark his grave but instead commemorates his life and sacrifice.
