Charles August Fischer, age 34, immigrated from Saxony, Germany on September 21, 1881 arriving in Baltimore with his wife Mary, age 33 and their two oldest children Alma, age 9 and Lina, age 5. Charles was a Tailor. They moved to Chicago, where they lived for a year or so, then moved to Danville, Vermilion Co., IL. He became a naturalized citizen in 1888, while in Danville. The family was growing and they moved to Brazil, Clay County, Indiana before August 4, 1889. His wife Mary died from burns from a coal lamp explosion on that day. They had buried their 5 month old daughter two days before Mary's death. Lutheran Church records of Brazil show that daughter, Lina was confirmed in that church. It also gives her date of birth as October 19, 1875 in Frankenstien, Saxony, Germany. Charles and Mary had 7 known children.
Charles August Fischer married Nancy Jane(Kyle)Hawkins, widow of Charles Hawkins on October 1, 1890 in Terre Haunte Vigo County, IN. by J.H. Crum. Charles and Nancy both had children from their previous marriages. Charles and Nancy (known to family as Jennie) had one daughter from their marriage, Marguerite (Fischer), Root.
They moved to CA prior to 1900 and first settled in Santa Clara County. They moved from there to the Paso Robles district of San Luis Obispo County where they for twenty-nine years were well known rancher of the Paso Robles district. Charles wife Nancy (Jennie) died October 12, 1927 and his buried next to him in grave number 6.
Charles Fischer's children, grand children (10) and great grand children (11) were living in MI., IL.,IN., and several places in CA at the time of his death.
