Death Claims Pioneer Citizen, Nathan Adler
After an illness extending over a period of many months, Nathan (Dutch) Adler departed this life Sunday morning at 3:30 o'clock. The condition of Mr. Adler had been serious for three months or more, and while the end was not unexpected, the news of his death sent a pall of sadness through everyone who knew him.
In his endeavor to regain his health he visited several specialists, was operated on at Sulphur, and was in the sanitarium at Pauls Valley when death came. During his long illness his friends were very solicitous about his welfare, and were always pleased when his condition appeared encouraging.
His illness was such that he suffered intensely at times, but through it all he was patient and forbearing never complaining, always cheerful and hopeful.
Mr. Adler was one of Davis' pioneer citizens, coming here 27 years ago. He was born in New York City Aug. 20, 1872. When about 14 years of age he moved to Gainesville and after living there a number of years moved to Marietta, later coming to Davis. He was one of our city's best and truest citizens, admired for his integrity and friendliness. He followed merchandising most of the time since coming to Davis, in which line he was successful. He was a member of the firm of Adler & Turbyfill, general merchants, and bought his partner's interest in the business a short time ago.
Mr. Adler is survived by a wife and two small children; two stepsons, Harold M. and Moss H. Offield; two brothers, Ike Adler of this city and Will Adler of New York City; two sisters, Miss Minnie Adler of Davis and Mrs. Bella Moritz of Stockton, Cal., and his mother, who lives in New York City.
The funeral was held at the family residence Tuesday afternoon at 3:30. Religious services were conducted by Revs. J. J. Franklin and H. O. Moore, followed by fraternal services by the Masonic fraternity, after which the body was interred in Green Hill cemetery.
Mr. Adler was a man who was appreciated by his friends. His death occasioned sorrow among his large circle of friends, all of whom share the sorrow of the family and loved ones in their bereavement.
Out-of-town relatives and friends at the funeral: Mr. Henry Schiff of Gainesville, Tex.; Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Offield of Sapulpa; Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Burgess of Oklahoma City; Miss Florence Corley of Schulter, Okla.; Mrs. L. C. Parker, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Parks and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cunningham of Sulphur.
