Memorial services for Benjamin Adams, 89, were held Saturday, Feb 4, at the First Christian Church in Canton with Rev. Bob Chatham officiating. Burial followed in the Canton Cemetery under the direction of the Haigler Funeral Home. Adams died February 1, 1978, at the Okeene hospital after a lengthy illness. Benjamin Harrison Adams, the son of Rueben and Mary Jane Adams, was born November 5, 1888, at Garden Plain, Kansas. In 1898, the family, with Ben the youngest of five brothers and three sisters, moved to Dewey County and settled on a farm near the Independence School.
He was united in marriage on April 19, 1911, to Bertha Mae Connelly at Taloga. To this union five children were born, all of whom survive him.
He was a retired farmer and active in the management at Adam's Motel. He attended the Fonda Community Church and served for many years on the election board.
He was a long-time resident in the Fonda and Canton communities, moving to Canton in 1944.
Survivors include his children, Evelyn Reynolds, Birdena and Leo Hurt of Seiling; John and Naomi Adams, Alvin and Olive Adams, and Clifford and Bernice Adams, all of Canton, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; a step grandson and many nieces and nephews.
