Edith Eleanor Brown, 92 of Bethany, OK peacefully slipped into the arms of Jesus on February 10, 2015. Her faith in Christ and love for others was a constant source of strength and peace for her, throughout her life.
Edith was born to the late Lee and Nina Marie Johnson, in Camargo, OK on May 19, 1922. She grew up in Dewey County in Oklahoma and graduated from Vici High School. She and her entire family came to know Christ in a small Methodist church, meeting in an old school house between Vici and Camargo. At 16 years of age, she and her family were baptized in the south Canadian river and she has faithfully and joyfully served the Lord ever since.
Edith was blessed with a large and loving family. She married the love of her life, Cecil M. Brown on July 5, 1941. After welcoming Cecil home from the service, at the end of WWII, they were blessed with three children; Taresa, R.E. and Nancy. They raised their three children in Amarillo, TX. Edith raised the children in Christian faith and they were actively involved in the old San Jacinto Church of the Nazarene (Now called the Valleyview Nazarene Church). She was proud of her children, all of whom graduated from Southern Nazarene University.
Edith was a gifted seamstress and all of her children and grandchildren have been the beneficiaries of her sewing; both with hand-made clothing and over 100 hand-made quilts and baby blankets. She also enjoyed hosting her family and always managed to have something ready to eat when they would arrive.
She passionately served Christ and gently, but consistently modeled and practiced Christian faithfulness before her family, neighbors, friends and church family. She was known for her fervent prayer life, and countless people benefitted from her faithful prayers and quiet encouragement.
Edith is survived by her three children, Taresa and Joe Copeland, R.E. and Vivian Brown and Nancy Hawes; their nine grandchildren, their spouses and their 22 great-grandchildren. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, brother,a Ernest and her husband of 65 years, Cecil M. Brown.
There will be a celebration of Edith’s life at the Williams Memorial Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
