Melissa, daughter of the late Billy and Betty Easley, was born in Macon county, Missouri Nov. 9, 1859 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Chambers in Eakly, Okla., Sept. 28, 1937, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 11 days.
She was married to the late T.B. Abbott of La Plata, Mo., March 16, 1878, and to this union were born nine children.
She came to Oklahoma with her family in 1906 and lived near Binger for several years.
Grandma Abbott, as she was known to her many friends, was converted at an early age and united with the Baptist church of which she was a devoted member until her death. She had suffered the loss of her eyesight and had been confined to her bed most of the time for the past year, but even through all of her suffering she was patient and kind. She was a devoted companion, a loving mother, always mindful of the needs of all those with whom she came in contact.
She was preceded in death by her husband and four children. Those left to mourn her passing are Mrs. John Chambers, Eakly; Earl Abbott, Winnigan, Mo.; Guy Abbott, Frier, Tex.; Mabel Walling, Ponca City, and Ray Abbott, Tucson, Ariz., besides other relatives and a host of friends.
