Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church Sunday afternoon for Sam BALLARD, 71, who died Sept. 24 in the Perryton Hospital after along illness.
He was a retired farmer who made his home in Beaver county for many years and had moved to Liberal several years ago when he left the farm.
Rev. J. R. Russell, Rev. W. O. Harmon and Rev. A. B. Cockrell conducted the final rites. Active pallvearers were Earl WATSON, Bluford SEAGO, O. C. RICKARD, Arvle HALE, Joe JULIUSSON and Rex CLARK.
Honorary pallbearers were C. E. DELANO, J. H. NEUFELD, G. I. HORNE, Sam HERGERT, C. A. HOOVER, Ernie TREGELLAS and A. J. KELLY.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, Harold and Cecil of Liberal and Monroe of Perryton; a sister, Mrs. Bessie PRICE of Balko; two brothers, Livie BALLARD of Beaver and Charlie BALLARD of Fort Worth; and four grandchildren.
Interment was in the Bethany cemetery.

Samuel BALLARD, son of John and Sarah Jane BALLARD, was born January 27, 1883 in St. Clair County, Mo., and passed from this life September 24, 1954 at Perryton, Texas at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 28 days.
He came to Beaver county, Oklahoma in 1905 where he filed on a claim. In 1906 his father and mother, two sisters, and one brother came to make their home with him until the father's death June 2, 1907.
Mrs. BALLARD and her family moved to a nearby farm. Sam and his younger brother Charles farmed and cared for their mother and sisters.
He was united in marriage to Iva Mae TROLLINGER on Nov. 29, 1914 and three sons were born to this union. Sam was converted while still a young man and lived a true Christian life, a friend to all and always ready to help in sickness or need.
He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife and three sons, Harold of Liberal, Monroe of Perryton and Lavern of the home, two brothers, Levi of Beaver and Charles of Fort Worth; one sister, Mrs. Bessie PIERCE of Balko; four grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Ida TROLLINGER of Perryton; many other relatives and a host of friends.
