John Althauser Passes Away

John Althauser died Friday evening at 11:30 o'clock at the family residence 105 Edison Street. The deceased was 85 years old and was born in Opfinger, Baden, Germany.

He came to this country in 1854 and made Dubuque his home ever since. He was a gardener for many years, but was retired for the last twelve years.

Several years ago he lost his eyesight, but always enjoyed good health. Mr. Althauser was an honest and upright man and his genial disposition won him many friends, who will regret to hear of his demise. Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church for many years.

He is survived by his wife and five children, John C and William and Mrs. Carl Kessel of this city; Mrs. Carolina Stark of Scotland, S.D., and Mrs. Adolph Gonser of this city, and twelve grandchildren. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the family residence to St. John's Cemetery.
