PLEASANT VALLEY, Iowa - James F. Beeks, Pleasant Valley, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport.
Inurnment in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Marshalltown, the son of Fred and Rose Beeks. Upon graduation from Marshalltown High School, Jim entered the U.S. Navy where he served from 1945 to 1947. He married Kathryn G. Kingsbury on Sept. 11, 1949, in Marshalltown. She preceded him in death May 1, 1999. Jim was employed at Alcoa from 1951 to 1981 as a construction foreman. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Bettendorf. He also was a volunteer fireman with the Pleasant Valley Fire Department for 23 years, serving as chief before his retirement. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish, but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his wife traveling after they had both retired. Memorials may be made to LeClaire Levee Commission. He is survived by daughters and son-in-laws, Mary and Tim Van Horn, Greeneville, Tenn., and Claudia and Stosh Anderson, Kodiak, Alaska; a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Carol Beeks, LeClaire; five grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Ralph Laird, Traverse City, Mich. His parents and a grandson, James Andrew Beeks, preceded Jim in death.
