Arthur J. son of Doris and Jane Van Roekel Bennink was born at Leighton, la., on Sept. 13, 1911. His elementary education began at the Leighton Schools graduating from high school at Armour, South Dakota.
He was united in marriage with Helen Huyser at Pella on June 16, 1938. To this union 2 children were born: a son, presently serving the U.S. Army stationed in Viet Nam and a daughter living at home.
Rev. Bennink received his B.A. degree from Central College in 1935 and was graduated from Wetsern Theological Seminary in 1938 and received his Master's Degree in Psychology from Iowa University in 1951. Rev. Bennink was ordained into the ministry and served the Reformed Church at Tyre, New York from 1938 to 1940. From 1940 to '44. he was at Palmyra, N. Y. and at the First Reformed Church in Sully, la., from '44 to '48.' From 1948 til the latter part of 1958, he served on the faculty of Central College as Professor of Psychology and Bible. It was after this time the family moved to Phoenix, Ariz., for the betterment of his health.
At that time of his death, Arthur was serving as Asst. Librarian at the Arizona State University. He passed away at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix on Tuesday, March 21st, at the age of 55 yrs.
Surviving beside his wife and 2 children are the following brothers and sisters: John; and Minnie, Mrs. L. B. LaClair both of Sacramento, Calif.; William of Pampa, Texas; Gerard of Bellingham, Wash.; Betty, Mrs. Wayne Woltz of El Paso, Texas; Paul of Yankton, So. Dak.; Merle of Grand Island, Nebr. and Mrs. Dorothy Gilmore of Des Moines, Ia.
Preceding him in death beside his parents was one sister, Lucille.
Services were held Friday, March 24, 1967 at 10:00 a.m. in Phoenix, Arizona and Monday, 27, 1967 at 2:00 p.m. at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home Chapel. Revs. Henry J. Vermeer, Harmon Wierenga and Frank Snuttjer, were officiating. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery at Pella, Iowa.
