John S. Agnew was born in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania April 26, 1855 and died at his home in Villisca, Iowa December 24, at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 26 days.
In 1875 he moved with his parents to Cedar County, Iowa and five years later to Carrol County.
He married Julia F. Wilden on December 29, 1880 and in 1893 he moved to Adams County and has resided in Adams and Montgomery Counties since.
To this union was born five children and of whom with their mother are living to mourn the loss of their loved one.
The children are: Floyd L., R. D., Harry A., of Nodaway, Mrs. T. E. Johnson of Red Oak, and Mrs. Lloyd Bowers of Nodaway. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary ?, twelve grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Silas Overholser of Hamburg. , with burial in the Nodaway cemetery. Mr. Agnew will be missed in this community as well as by his family to whom he was a loving father. Mr. Agnew was sick for many months before his death and patiently suffered much.
