"John Moore was born in Queens County, Ireland, December 3d, 1823 nd died in Hamlin Township, March 25, 1905 at the ripe age of 81 years, 3 months, 22 days. He was brought up and raised in the Emerald Isle and on April 15, 1853 was united in marriage to Miss Anna Fitzpatrick. To this marriage 8 children were born; three of them with his aged partner in life's joys and sorrows survive him. They are Mrs. Mary Dempsey of Windom, Minnesota, Mrs Margaret Barry of Clinton Iowa and John Moore, Jr. with whom his parents resided."
"The family emigrated to the United States in 1862 landing in Philadelphia where he worked in the Navy Yard as a carpenter until 1865, when they came west and located in Iowa City and resided in Johnson County for about 17 years when they again moved landing in Audubon County March 30, 1883, where they have ever since continued to reside."
"Deceased was a kind and loving husband and indulgent father, a good neighbor and a true friend, and no one can say aught was to his character being anything less than that according to all true citizens."
"He was a devout Catholic and prior to his demise received the holy sacrament at the hands of his pastor, Rev. S.F. Wieland of Exira."
"His sickness was long continued, his suffering great, so acute that weeks ago his case was considered hopeless, and all those in attendance expressed the opinion that the most only a few hours would elapse before the spirit would wing its way to a better land where sorrow and trouble are strangers; but at last after 5 weeks the summons came, the end being peaceful. The funeral took place last Monday from the holy Trinity Church in Exira, Rev. Wieland officiating in the solemn services, after which followed by a long procession of sympathizing friends and neighbors the remains were escorted to the Holy Trinity Cemetery east of Exira and interned in their last resting place."
"CARD OF THANKS: It is with heartfelt thanks we acknowledge the untiring care and sympathy extended toward us by our kind neighbors and friends during the illness and after the death of our dear husband and father. Mrs. Anna Moore and Family"
