Nettie Elizabeth "Betty" Tressler Roberts Johnson died unexpectedly on March 28, 2009, at the Mahaska County Hospital.

Betty was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Delta, Iowa, to Edward Roy and Lela Ann Wiseman Tressler. She married Daniel H. Roberts on Feb. 3, 1951. He passed away Sept. 13, 1976. She married Clyde Willard Johnson on July 5, 1980.

Betty's life story was as interesting and as normal as were most of our parents and grandparents. Betty's parents were farmers who raised her during the Great Depression. Roy and Lela insisted that she continue high school and Betty became the first in her family to achieve a high school diploma. Upon graduation, Betty proceeded to finish secretarial school and then began her work career. The next stage of her life began with her marriage to Dan and they stayed in love through hard economic times, two children, health issues and everything daily life can throw you. After Dan's unexpected death, Betty pulled herself together and started a second career as the secretary at the Eddyville Elementary School, a job she sincerely loved.Amazingly, Betty found love a second time when she met and married Willard. Their marriage began with Willard's honeymoon and Betty's vacation and included cruising to Alaska, visiting Ireland, Sweden, Holland and Australia. Betty and Willard were the tonic that each needed in their lives at that time.Betty was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease five years ago. The family is extremely grateful to have had Jody Eveland become the consistent caregiver for Betty. Jody has been much more than a caregiver; she is family.

Betty is survived by her husband, Clyde Willard Johnson; her daughters, Deb Roberts (Terry Marsh) of Seattle, Wash., and Pam Gentry of Richmond, Mo.; her grandchildren: Chip Gentry, Amy Dalton, Keenan Newby, Kent Newby, Elizabeth Johnson, Kathleen Johnson and her great-grandchildren, Alex Gentry, Grace Gentry and Samantha Newby.

Betty's daughters are comforted by the fact that she is being met at the Pearly Gates by her family who she missed terribly for many years; Dan, her first husband and the father of her daughters, Roy and Lela, her beloved mother and father, her brother Ed, Babe her childhood horse and Lily her kitty cat.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Eddyville with Reverend Dennis Durst officiating.
