HUMBOLDT - Dorothy Baker, 84, of Humboldt, passed away Friday January 23, 2009 in the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Badger Lutheran Church with the Rev. Darryl Landsverk Officiating. Interment will be in Blossom Hill Cemetery, Badger. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday evening at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughter, Denise (Greg H.) Stoebe and grandson, Andrew Gregory Stoebe of Humboldt; son, Ronald Baker and family. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Alfred Baker.
Dorothy Marie Medearis, the daughter of E.A. and Victoria "Della" (East) Medearis, was born September 26, 1924 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. She attended Fort Dodge Senior High School where she graduated. After her schooling, she was employed by the Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company. She met Donald A. Baker and was united in marriage on January 24, 1947 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple made their home in Badger on a farm. Donald was engaged in farming and custom corn shelling. The couple later moved from the farm to a house in Fort Dodge. Dorothy held several employment positions among them included working in the business office at Friendship Haven, in the office of the Clerk of District Court and in the office of the State of Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Division in Fort Dodge. The couple purchased a home in 1986 and moved to the town of Badger. Dorothy moved into an apartment in Humboldt after Donald passed away on December 14, 2002 and since May of 2007 has lived in the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Baker was involved in various church circles and organizations, she was a member of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA.) she enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, going out to eat with her family and friends, watching movies, listening to music and reading. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandson and family. She will truly be missed. Memorials may be made to the Badger Lutheran Church and Hospice of Humboldt County.
