Lelia Agnes Aurand, one of nine children, was born to George and Minnie Cooper Schnitker on a farm near Nishnabotna, Mo., in Atchison County, Aug. 9, 1896.

She attended rural schools in Missouri and after the family moved to the Hardy area, she attended and graduated from Hardy High School in 1916.

Nov. 11, 1917, she was united in marriage to Eugene Raymond Aurand. This union was blessed with three children.

They lived many years on the farm. She helped with her husband's farm work and took a great interest in the antiques he had collected, in 1980 Mr. and Mrs. Aurand donated a quarter section of land, which was later sold at auction, and those funds were used to build the second building for the Nuckolls County Museum. It is named Aurand Hall.

She was affiliated with the Lutheran Church in Hardy and was a member of the Jewell Social Circle.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Eugene, March 5, 1988; an infant daughter, Orba; a sister, Mary Shellhase; two brothers, Frank and George Schnitker; an infant sister; and a great granddaughter, Elise van Rossum.

She is survived by two sons, Ward and Glen, both of rural Courtland; a sister, Grace Fuller, Hardy; three brothers, Fred Schnitker of Boliver, Mo., Lee Schnitker of Independence, Mo., and Owen Schnitker of Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Greg van Rossum (Karen), Clay Aurand, Marilyn Aurand and Jana Aurand; two great grandchildren, Jeremy and Angela van Rossum; and many other relatives.

Mrs. Aurand died May 7 in the Superior Good Samaritan Center at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 28 days.

The funeral was Thursday, May 10, at 10 a.m., from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Jackson officiating. Burial was in the Rosemound Cemetery near Hardy.
