Andress, John - (Lt. 4, Blk. 9, Sec.2) On Monday, Jan. 22, 1917 John Andress died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.A. Smith, in the north part of town. He was in his usual health for a man of his age, in the morning when his granddaughters started to school, and when they came home at noon he lay on the floor still in death. He had attended the Baptist Sunday School on Sunday morning and taught the bible class. When he was found the day of his death the bible lay on the floor beside him. He was born near Ciucinatta, OH., March 29, 1832, moved to Sauthern, IN., with his parents when a child. In 1859 he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Grant at Columbus City, IN. To this union four children were born, two sons and two daughters, three of whom have preceded him to the other world. From Indiana he moved with his family to Washington County, KS., in 1870, where his wife died in 1876. From there he moved to Kearny County, in 1884, which has been his ome ever since.
He leaves to deeply mourn his loss one daughter, Mrs. E.A. Smith and two granddaughters, Stella and Mae Smith of this place. J.J. Nash had charge of the funeral arrangements.(Diggin' Up Bones by Betty Barnes)
