Orland E. Barrett
A retired plasterer, Orland E. Barrett, 103 Linn St., died Oct 22 at Newman Hospital. He lived here most of his life, retiring in 1965. He was a member of the Verdigris Church of the Brethren at Madison and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7957 in Emporia. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I.
Services in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Chapel will be held Saturday at 1:30 PM, conducted by Lola Brown of End-Time Ministries. Burial will in Fowler Cemetery, east of Emporia.
Mr. Barrett was the son of the late William and Mattie Rich Barrett. He was born in Saffordville on July 26, 1895. He married Sarah Brewer in Emporia in 1920 and she died in 1966. He also was preceded in death by his second wife, Elizabeth Peppercorn Barrett. He was married to Lucille Slagle on April 2, 1976, in Phoenix, Ariz., and she survives. Other survivors are one son, Robert E. Barrett of Madison, one brother, George Barrett of Colorado; two sisters, Letha Kashuba and Elva Hagerman of Thompson Falls, Mont., eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Orval L. Barrett, one brother, Clarice Barrett, and one grandson, Robert Paul Barrett.
