William Alanson Abbe, b. Aug. 24, 1835 (b in Litchfield CT); d. Dec. (?), 1892.
He was graduated from Harvard and Amherst, studied law but engaged in the smelting business. He resided in New Bedford, Mass., and in Black Hawk, Colo., where he was mayor of the city.
Married (1) March 4, 1875, Helen C. Bourne, b. April 13, 1844 ; d. in Boston, May 8, 1879, daughter of Jonathan and Emily Summers (Howland) Bourne. No children.
Married (2) Feb. 2, 1882, Hannah Tobey Bourne, sister of his first wife, b. in New Bedford, Sept. 10, 1840; d. in Greenwich, Conn., Feb. 11, 1914. No children.
She left large bequests to the 'Jonathan Bourne Scholarship Fund" at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and to St. Luke's Hospital of New Bedford.
