SOUTHAMPTON - David A. Bodurtha, 89 died Saturday, September 20, 2008 in Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton. He was born in Westfield on October 18, 1918 to the late Stephen and Florence (Boise) Bodurtha. David grew up in Westfield, attended local schools, and was a 1937 graduate of Westfield High School. He lived in Montgomery for many years and for the past 28 years has lived in Southampton. He attended Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was a welder for Worthington Pump in Holyoke. David entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the European Theatre and was discharged in 1946 as a Tech Sergeant. After the service, David worked for Sterling Radiator, D.A Bodurtha Trucking, and was a mechanic for Fenton Chevrolet, Fish Chevrolet and retired in 1983 from Regency Oldsmobile. He enjoyed photography and building model cars and airplanes. David leaves his children, Stephen E. Bodurtha of Fitchburg, Mark D. Bodurtha of Montgomery, and Joel E. Bodurtha of Rapid City, South Dakota, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, his sisters, Marion Lucia of Florida. David was pre-deceased by his daughter Lisa Darlene Bodurtha who died August 8, 1971, his brother Edward K. Bodurtha and his sister Marie Louise Hocker. The funeral for David will be held Thursday at 1pm at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery in Montgomery. Calling hours will be Wednesday evening from 5-8 pm at the funeral home. Donations in memory of David may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
Note: Although the official place of death was Northampton, he actually died at home in Southampton while on the phone with one of his nieces.
