Margaret R. Ball, 93, formerly of 32 Russell Street, Great Barrington, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Berkshire Place in Pittsfield.
She was born in Great Barrington on September 26, 1917 daughter of Elmer and Margaret Hayes Ball. She was a 1934 graduate of the former Searles High School, and a 1938 graduate of Radcliffe College and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
She worked as a Biochemist for Harvard Medical School for forty-four years from 1939-1983. She lived in Boston and returned to live in Great Barrington in 1995.
She was a member of the Emma Forbes Cary Guild of Radcliffe, she also served as its president, she was a member of the Irish Genealogical Society, a member of the Harvard Friends giving cooking lessons to Harvard members and associates, a member of the Great Barrington Historical Society, the Thursday Morning Club, and the Herb Society at Berkshire Botanical Garden. Margaret also collaborated in particular with Dr. Francis Moore, renowned surgeon at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston on the effects on body fluids in surgical trauma, as well as other bio-chemistry studies.
During vacations, she traveled extensively abroad. A favorite destination was the Cordon Bleu Culinary School in Paris.
Margaret leaves her cousins James T. and Mary Alice Welch of Sheffield.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2011, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Valley Church, Sheffield, with the Reverend Bruce Teague pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at a calling hour preceding the funeral from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME.
