Carl E. "Andy" Anderson, 60, of 11 Gromacki Ave., 14-year proprietor of C.& D. Trucking Co., died Saturday afternoon in Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield after a period of failing health.
He began working with his brother Sam in the produce and trucking business, and in 1968 he opened Anderson's Texaco & Towing in Amherst. He was also the proprietor of the former Highway Grille, and he built and operated the former Windjammer Restaurant and Motor Lodge, both in Amherst.
Born in South Coventry, Conn., he attended schools there, moved to Amherst in 1955, and had lived in South Deerfield for many years. He was a former member of the Army National Guard.
He leaves his wife, the former Roni Zeno of Northfield; four stepsons, Joseph Hnath of South Deerfield, George Hnath Jr. of San Diego, Calif., and Robert Hnath and Ronald Hnath, both of Northfield; a stepdaughter, Clara Alger of Montague; three daughters, Ella Kolasienski of Winston-Salem, N.C., Brenda Thornton of Amherst, and Linda Kelley of South Deerfield; his former wife, Dorothy Anderson of Feeding Hills; a brother, Sam of Belchertown; two sisters, Adele Garceau of Willimantic, Conn., and Grace Yoman of New Britain, Conn., and several grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday morning at Wrisley Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Brookside Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday afternoon and evening.
