A Menomonie farmer was fatally injured at 7:15 a.m., Tuesday when he was crushed by a tractor.
William Bertelson, 68, Rt. 4, Menomonie. Bertelson was plowing, according to Sheriff Leonard Oas, when he came to the end of a field. The tractor went over an embankment as he made a turn and tipped. A neighbor, Mrs. Harry Olson, saw the tractor tip, and she called another neighbor, Raymond Wahl, who summoned assistance.
Mr. Bertelson was born in Minneapolis on Sept. 22, 1892, the son of Peter and Christen Nelson Bertelson. He came to Dunn County with his parents as a youth. He lived in Dunn County all his life except from 1931-37 when he resided in Eau Claire, and from 1947-57 when he lived in Racine. He spent from June 1918 to July 1919 in the army during World War I as a member of the Medical Division, and served in France from September 1918 to July of the following year.
Mr. Bertelson is survived by his wife, the former Ethel Johnson, who he married on Sept. 10, 1917; three sons, Leonard, at home, and George and Donald, both Racine; and one brother, Nels, Spring Valley.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Louisville Lutheran church, Rev. Jerome Trelstad officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview cemetery.
Friend may call at the Goodrich Funeral Home from Thursday noon until Friday noon, and at the church until time of services.
