Death of Jacob Appel Who Came To Baileys Harbor In 1864 And Lived Here Ever Since Jacob Appel, prominent old resident of Baileys Harbor, died last Friday at the age of 70 years, 7 months. Mr. Appel suffered for a long time from a cancer of the face which caused his death. Funeral services were held Sunday from the Baileys Harbor Lutheran church, Rev. E Sterz, officiating. Deceased was born in Germany on Jan 11, 1837 and in 1861 came to America living in Chicago a couple of years and then coming to Door county and settling in Baileys Harbor where he resided until his death. He came here in 1864 and the same year married Miss Henrietta Schermer. Besides his widow he leaves five daughters and four sons, Mrs. John Leitl and Mrs. August Jackson of this city, Mrs. Ferdinand Jorns, Mrs. E Stephans and Mrs. Jos Weise, Henry, William and George of Baileys Harbor and Jacob of Sister Bay. Those from outside who attended the funeral of Joseph [should be Jacob] Appel were Mr. and Mrs. John Leitl, Mr. and Mrs. August Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Eatough, Mrs. L D Burns, Mrs. W Wagener of Sturgeon Bay, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Appel of Jacksonport, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Appel of Sister Bay and Mr. and Mrs. Jos Weiss of Peninsula Center.
