Helen was an active member of the Burlington Church of Christ for 51 years, also very involved in their food pantry, and served as their treasurer for 35 years. She was the bookkeeper for Bailey Fence for 40 years. She frequently made homemade noodles for family and friends, and family gatherings were favorite times for her. She also enjoyed playing euchre in several card clubs, and loved being a part of her grandkids and great grandkids activities.
Survivors include: son, Roger (Kim) Bailey of Bringhurst; three daughters: Carolyn (John) Rhine of Russiaville, Marilyn (Jon) Ayers of Greentown, Cherilyn (Tom) Shook of Kokomo; grandchildren: Lorie (Jason) Clester, Kelly (Ross) Salts, Amy (Billy) Lytle, Kyla (Nardo) Garcia, Erik Rhine, Bryce (Brianne) Rhine, Jaclyn (Dustin Taflinger) Ayers, Colin Ayers, and Aaron Shook; great grandchildren, Bailey and Chandler Wright, Mason, Aubrey and Jillian Salts, Grady, Coy and Ava Lytle, Eliana and Elysha Garcia, Beckam Rhine, and Nolan Taflinger; brother, Mike (Jan) Gilbert; two sisters, Alice Jean Cassell and Rosemary (Glenn) Wilson; sister-in-law, Carrie Bailey; many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, Howard and Lewella (Addler) Gilbert; step-mother, Martha (Rothwell) Gilbert; brother & sister-in-law, Robert (Thelma) Gilbert; step brother, George Rothwell; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Betty (James) Fletcher, Marjorie (Harold) Eller and Ernest Cassell, Jr.

Funeral services will be 2 pm on Friday, December 19, 2014 at the Burlington Church of Christ, with Pastor David Osborne officiating. Burial will follow at South Union Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 pm Thursday at Stout & Son Funeral Home (Neptune Chapel), 44 Michigan St., Burlington; and one hour prior to the service.
