Mrs. Joseph Berenda St., Of Mt. Ayr Dies
Passes Away At Nursing Home Tuesday p.m.; Born In Czechoslovakia in 1869; Funeral Friday
Mrs. Anna (Dudek) Berenda of a family long associated with and prominent in the life of the Mr. Ayr section of Newton county passed away at Yoder Nursing Home in Mr. Ayr at 3:10 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Her death came after a long general decline resulting from age complications. The widow of Joseph Berenda, St., who passed away June 6, 1939, she was approaching her 83rd birthday.
Born in Czechoslovakia July 26, 1868, she came to America at the age of sixteen, settling in Chicago where she remained until her marriage on Feruary 3, 1902, at which time she and her husband located on a farm in the Mt. Ayr area where she had since lived. She received her education in the schools of her native land.
Immediate survivors are two sons, Edward Berenda and Joseph Berenda, Jr., of near Mr. Ayr; a daughter, Mrs. Emily Halstead of Mt. Ayr; and four grandchidlren, Linda Berenda, Edward Berenda, Jr., Sandra Halstead and Tommy Halsteda, all of Mr. Ayr vicinity. She was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Funeral services will be conducted from St. Augustine's Catholic church of Rensselaer at 9'o'clock, CST,, Friday, with the Rev. Fr. Zimmerle, C.PP.S., officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary cemetery. Friends may call at Jackson Funeral Chapel.
