Martha Covert was born on 20 January 1782, in Hillsborough, Hillsborough Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Bergun Covert and Catrynte Van Nuys. She married Poulus Amerman on 7 August 1802, in Harlingen, Montgomery Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. They were the parents of five children. She lived in Bernards Township, Somerset County, New Jersey in 1850. She died on 1 March 1859, at the age of 77, and was buried in Bedminster, Bedminster Township, Somerset County, New Jersey.
